ACC has installed menstruation product dispensers in all of the gender-neutral restrooms at the Littleton campus. Isaac Winchester had the idea after some students talked about not having access. The products are free for all students as of February 19th, 2026, and for accessibility, the dispensaries are also marked in Braille.
“I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of making a difference,” said long-time ACC student leadership member Isaac Winchester. He initiated the idea in 2020 and applied for a grant through the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), which funded the installation and products from Aunt Flow Period Products.
Having menstrual products freely available helps students who can’t afford them when they’re on a tight budget at school. Paying for menstrual products can be a financial burden on students, with most paying over 6,000 dollars over the course of their reproductive lifetime. Students who cannot afford menstrual products are statistically more likely to miss classes during their period, as stated in this article.
The state of Colorado passed a bill that took effect on August 7th, 2024. By 2028, the hope is for all gender-neutral bathrooms in college facilities to comply with and implement the free products. Students have no control over the bodily function of menstruation; it does impact their daily lives at school.
“We still have to expand to the other ACC campuses; it’s a work in progress, ” said Isaac. Thanks to him and the help of the dean of students and Student Life, students can have easier access to the products that they need.
