Elmont, New York – The Colorado Avalanche lost to the New York Islanders 6-3. Colorado falls to the New York Islanders 6-3. New York advances to 15-10-3 while Colorado falls to 19-2-6.

This game marked only the second regulation loss for the Avalanche. The first since October 25th versus the Bruins in Boston.

Colorado scored their first goal came from Valeri Nichuskin in the second period at 8:39. Assisted by Sam Malinski and Brock Nelson. Martin Necas netted one a couple of minutes later at 10:04, assisted by Victor Olofsson and Brent Burns. Arturri Lehkonen scored the third and final goal at 1:27 in the third period, assisted by Cale Makar and Martin Necas.

Scoring opened up for New York in the first period at 5:56 with Kyle MacLean, assisted by Ryan Pullock and Marc Gatcomb. Anders Lee scored at 18:20 with the assist from Mathew Barzal. The second period’s first goal came at 6:58 from Bo Horvat, assisted by Matthew Scaefer and Ryan Pulock. Adam Pelech scored at 7:59 with assists from Barzal and Anders Lee. Barzal would score on the power play at 18:46, with assists from Horvat and Maxim Shabanov. Casey Cizikas would score the lone goal in the third period at 18:45, an unassisted empty-netter. 

Mackenzie Blackwood started for Colorado, stopping 36 of 41 shots, and finishing with an .878% save percentage. He’ll look to bounce back in his next appearance.

Ilya Sorokin started for New York, stopping 35 of 38 shots and finishing with a .921% save percentage—a solid performance in front of the home crowd.

Colorado finished with 38 shots, 26 hits, 5 penalties, accounting for 10 penalty minutes, and a faceoff percentage of 54.5%. New York ends with 42 shots, 18 hits, 3 penalties accounting for 6 penalty minutes, and a faceoff percentage of 45.5%.

The road trip continues for Colorado, as they travel to Madison Square Garden in Manhattan to take on the New York Rangers on Saturday at 10:30 am MT. The Islanders travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Lightning at Benchmark International Arena at 9 pm MT on Saturday.
