When one hears the word eSports, one typically thinks of competition, which the eSports club at ACC has plenty to offer, but it is worth noting that it is not all that it has to offer. Whether a casual or competitive gamer, or someone interested in boosting certain resume skills, the club is changing and evolving to include folks from all walks of life. The ACC site under Student Life lists the meeting times as 6:30 across the week for all their games, but the time frames are actually much more lenient than they first appear. The times listed on the ACC site have the correct competition dates, but these can go from 4:30 to 7:30, all within virtual meetings on Discord. Even if you are busy on those dates, itโs very much possible to join practice sessions with the club, which are also held online over Discord, meaning it is still very much possible to contribute even with a busy schedule.ย
Due to ACCโs standing in the National Junior College Athletics Association Esports (or NJCAAE), all competitions are held between other community colleges and hosted on a site called PlayVS. Being placed in the DIII category offers a leniency that would not exist for DI levels of competition. Missing a week is not as detrimental as it would be for a DI school, meaning members can put in as little or as much time as they want or have into the club.ย
For any non-gamers out there, the eSports club has a place for you as well. Roles not related to gaming are being sought after, such as recruiters, social media managers (of which the club has a YouTube channel, an X account, a Twitch account, and an Insta), or fundraisers. For the more casual gamers out there, the club does accept any and all skill levels to both compete and practice during meetings held by team captains, and is looking to perhaps expand to a more casual setting in general if there is enough interest in doing so.ย
As of April 1st 2026, team captains are often voted on to lead the team in competitions (if applicable) and schedule practice sessions, but the methodology of selecting team captains is subject to change. The list of games includes traditional fighters like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken, hero shooters like Marvel Rivals and Overwatch, and other games like Smash Bros and Mario Kart, as well as many more I have not mentioned. Aside from an extensive list of games to partake in, the club is open to including new games from its members so long as it does not stray away from ACC guidelines. Theyโve recently started more tabletop/board game-oriented games such as Magic: The Gathering, the Pokemon Card Game, and Dungeons and Dragons.ย
One of the faculty advisors, Karim Farah, expressed that eSports club is looking for anyone interested to participate, however often they can or are willing, and to accept students from all walks of life at ACC. With the primary desire to expand the community first and foremost, His largest goal is to โcreate teams that mesh well with each other,โ with competition being an aid to this goal.ย
