Coach Bednar Disappointed With Av’s Season

With the NHL season a quarter of the way through, Avalanche head coach Jarrod Bednar is disappointed with the overall play of his team.  The Avalanche have a 9-11-1 record; moreover, the Avalanche have a three game losing streak after losing 5-3 against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, November 29th.

Coach Bednar is know for being a usually upbeat coach when it comes to the team and their overall play, win or lose.  But after Tuesday night’s game, Bednar was very unhappy with the performance of the team.  Reports from the NHL say Bednar believes “it’s not good enough” and that his players are simply “wading into the game and seeing how the game goes.”  Bednar explains that his team must fight together because “one passenger on one line will ruin that line for the night.”

In the game against Nashville, coach Bednar wasn’t the only one who was unhappy with the play.  The NHL reports that right wing Rene Bourque was upset about the game saying, “we’re beating ourselves” and “some guys brought it some guys didn’t.”  Bourque was signed to the Avalanche for a one year contract for the 2016- 2017 season and he is currently leading the team in goals scored with eight goals total in twenty-one games.  Bourque is on the first line with assistant captain Nathan Mackinnon and rookie left winger Mikko Rantanen.

Another factor that may be contributing to Av’s poor play may be the absence of captain Gabriel Landeskog. The Avalanche hope to soon regain Landeskog from a lower body injury sustained November 15th against the Los Angeles Kings.  Landeskog has missed six consecutive games and four team practices since his injury.  There is no exact detail on his recovery, but Bednar isn’t taking any chances: “If he doesn’t feel better, then we’re leaving him out.”

The Avalanche will try to overturn their losing streak with a hopeful win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, December 1st at the Pepsi Center.
