Arapahoe Community College (ACC) Student Langley Fitzgerald began his academic journey with a love of games, a natural curiosity, and a desire to learn. Today, his sights are set on becoming a game developer, which requires a focus on coding and creativity.
“Games as a medium is just one of the best, it can do what movies do, where it can tell a story, through visual media and it incorporates music into it, and the best one is that you yourself can influence what’s happening in that source of media,” Fitzgerald said, he likes “basically every genre [of games],” noticing the value of each as they stimulate different parts of his brain.
Fitzgerald is currently enrolled as a computer science major. His father is also in the computer science industry.
Fitzgerald notes that the supportive and encouraging environment he has experienced at ACC is different from what he initially expected, specifically, how the staff and other students want to help him succeed.
“College is still the best way to learn.” Fitzgerald said.
Fitzgerald credits his Catholic upbringing for his values and principles. “Everyone is human,” Fitzgerald said, and he believes everyone should be treated with the same decency, lacking human judgment.
“Creative production is important, [but] I think human connection is more important than that. I would like to get to know the world I’m living in, and the world I’m living in is the people around me,” Fitzgerald said.
While at ACC, Fitzgerald plans to utilize the available college networks to gain access to internships, to begin a career in computer science. His goal is not simply coding games, but self-discovery and the continuation of learning, as he determines and refines his specialty.
