Gas Leak Near A+D Building Doesn’t Warrant Further Worrying
On, August 28th, The Art and Design Center Building at ACC was evacuated due to a gas leak. Emergency alerts over phone and email were sent out to notify students and faculty of the situation, but the matter was quickly resolved.
A construction crew working on the sidewalk of Prince St unintentionally ruptured a gas line, prompting Campus Police to evacuate occupants out the west side of the building, away from any danger. A crew was quickly dispatched to repair the leak, and between Campus Police, Littleton Police and Littleton Fire, the situation was under control within two hours.
Although classes were disrupted, no injuries were reported. Safety is the first concern of Campus Police, and even though the problem was small and localized, Chief of Police Joseph P. Morris believes it was still “enough to warrant evacuation.”
This isn’t the first time classes have been interrupted due to construction related issues; years back a fiber-optic cable was damaged in a similar situation, Morris says.
