A Sweet Transvestite Makes For a Particularly Sweet Night
Arapahoe Community College’s own LGBTQ+ Club hosted their annual showing of the legendary cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show in the Half Moon Wednesday night, October 26, 2016.
Members of the club, sporting fabulous makeup and rainbow ribbons, greeted and armed viewers with miniature water pistols, rubber gloves, toilet paper and much more. Why? To see them shiver with partici. . .
pation.
Particularly eager Rocky Horror fans arrived early and helped many viewers apply makeup á la Frankenfurter. The result? A small army of pseudo-furters cheerily watching a beloved classic for the first, second, twenty-seventh time.
The obligatory popcorn was served, the lights dimmed, and our feature began.
And it seems to get better every time we see it.
This happened to only be my second time watching Rocky Horror; my last trip with Rocky, Colombia, Riff Raff and the rest being more than six years ago. I did the Time Warp. Again.
And so did everyone else.
Tossing toilet paper when Dr. Scott enters the lab, popping confetti poppers when Rocky and Frankenfurter steal away to the bedroom, soaking each other with our water pistols when Janet and Brad get drenched in the rain, the audience members were all smiles and laughter.
Many thanks were given all around: to the LGBTQ+ Club for hosting and providing popcorn and props; to the audience for being there and making the showing a success.
The LGBTQ+ Club has more plans before October wraps up -on October 31st, the club will be hosting their own Halloween party held near the student lounge. Any and all are welcome. I went and wrote an article on this last year, and it was my first time seeing it. Good times. I do miss writing for this paper, but I can see it’s in great hands. Keep up the good work! =)
