Humans of ACC is a series of Q&A presentations about students, faculty and staff.

Today’s focus is on Alejandro Lucero, Creative Writing major and work-study student in the Writing Center.

Arapahoe Pinnacle: Why did you decide to pursue Creative Writing?
Alejandro Lucero: I chose to pursue creative writing because I was having fun and getting good grades in my Composition 1 and 2 classes, but I wanted to write about things emotions and topics that I care about. Also, I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing.

AP: You recently received a scholarship. How did you achieve this and how has it helped you pursue your academic goals?
AL: I received the scholarship by winning the Writers studio literary contest, which is held every year for ACC students. The scholarship paid for my English 222 course and materials, which has helped me financially.

AP: You also work as a work-study student in the Writing Center. What exactly do you do there and what can you and your co-workers offer to students seeking help?
AL: I actually just started working in the writing center as a peer tutor. My job there is to help students with their writing assignments. In addition to tutoring, my co-workers and I occasionally work with students in CCR classes, and work to improve the Writing Center’s Desire2Learn shell.

AP: If you were on an island and could only bring three things, what would you bring?
AL: If I was on an island and could only bring three things I would bring a tape recorder, a bookcase full of good reads and a legit everlasting gobstopper.
