Have you ever heard of Cafe 180? Did you know 100% of the proceeds from your meal go directly toward feeding those who are experiencing food insecurity?
Cafe 180 started in 2010 in the Englewood community, 3315 S Broadway, Englewood, CO 80113 where their mission is to feed everyone. They help the people who need food through partnerships in the Englewood and Denver Metro area. The Cafe has also served far more than 200,000 meals for the hungry.
Let me tell you, their mission/goal in life is inspiring. Their mission statement is: We believe everyone deserves great food. Their Core Values are: Everybody Eats, All are Welcome, Everyone has Something to Offer, and We’re all Connected. I volunteered there for a few weeks and it was such a great experience if you ask me.
The food that Cafe 180 creates is made right there in the kitchen, then sent out to the people that need it most through local organizations like Movement 5280 who deliver and serve 120 hot lunches every Wednesday. Cafe 180 also works with Giving Hearts delivering breakfast burritos every Tuesday and delivering/serving 50-70 hot lunches every other Tuesday. Another partnership is with Gelli’s Community Fridge who receives 50 assorted meals twice a week that they put into the community fridge for people to take what they need. Part of their Mission Statement says that everyone has something to offer, meaning everyone’s contribution is wanted and appreciated. Also, it was pretty cool that when people walked into the cafe, each individual felt welcomed. The staff would say “Hi, welcome in” and the person would know that they wouldn’t be judged for their homelessness or having no money.
I have volunteered there before so I understand their culture and mission in life which is, everybody deserves a free meal no matter what. I’m guessing a lot of people take life and the food they get for granted so I ask you, to think to yourself, what if I was homeless or in their position? How would you feel without proper clothing or even food? You never know when you might find yourself in a similar situation experiencing meal uncertainty. So, the next time you think about going out to eat, you should go to Cafe 180 because 100% of the money goes to feed people experiencing meal uncertainty. Cafe 180’s motto is FULL BELLY, FULL HEART!
