At Littleton Main Campus, Express Yourself Café, there are so many food choices to choose from. In this article, will name just a few and give a detailed description of each one from snack to a meal.
First, we will start with the snack food selection:
Apple is medium size; located next to the oranges in the sandwich area. When eaten it was fresh, cold, and crisp with the right amount of crunch. The taste was mild sweet and makes a great healthy snack.
Pickles that are spicy called “Hottie Bites” from Oh Snap Pickling Company. They come in a very nice 3.23-ounce weight with an easy open package. No brine is used and there is about 12 pieces per package. As the package suggest, they are spicy but when tasted, it was mildly hot instead of fire hot but do recommend drinking with water. At only 15 calories, it makes a good snack choice as long as sodium is not a concern because sodium is at 28 percent!
Cheese Strip is a very nice choice as well, from Sargento. The package is easy to open but the cheese can crumble if trying to break into smaller pieces. The taste is more of a sharp cheddar, even though the package states “mild”. The calories are unknown, for there is no specific information on package. This is a very small snack and might need more than one, if really hungry.
Hummus and Pretzels have more of a mixed review. The package was very cute with a 2-piece cup container that is separated. One is for the pretzel and the other the hummus. The containers were very easy open, however some of the pretzels were broken and they are lightly salted. The hummus is mild and very creamy with a whip like texture.
Lunchables Pepperoni Pizza was a lot of fun to make. Can be messy, so would suggest eating at cafeteria table with napkins. Loved the idea that there were 3 mini pizzas to create, so it is sharable! For the taste: pepperoni was thin, mild in flavor, and soft with a little bit of grease. The sauce packet is hard to open, but there is a lot of sauce. The mild flavor mozzarella is also a great option to create mini cheese pizzas.
Sour Candy, named “Giggles”. The package is re-sealable, which makes this a great snack to buy and go. There is a lot of candy! When opened, there were about 23 red (strawberry) flavor, about 33 orange flavor candy, about 42 Lemon flavor candy, about 26 grape flavor candy, and only about 19 green apple candy flavors. Total of five servings per package at 120 calories per servings. Ingredients does say that the candy is made of sweet potatoes and carrot but be aware that this candy has lots of sugar, 44 percent of sugar to be exact. The details on the package states that it does not have a lot of high fructose syrup and is allergy free, but I did notice that it’s made with sunflower oil, so need to be aware if have seed allergies.
Here are some of the lunch time meal selections:
Beef, Peppers, and Rice from Michelina’s is a great lunch time treat with lots of Mexican Flavor and smells wonderful after heating up in the microwave for about 3 minutes. This meal does need to be heated thoroughly, but no worries for the Littleton Express Yourself Café has a microwave! This meal is mostly rice and sauce, with some green pepper and meat.
Deli Express Sandwich, Oven Roast white Turkey, cheese, with wheat bread is another option. The sandwich has thin slice deli turkey and cheese, but no condiments. The wheat bread is soft and fresh.
Buffalo Style Chicken Wrap has lots of chicken but no vegetables. It does have a nice flavor with mild spiciness. This lunch is sharable which is really nice for there are 2 halves. Does require refrigeration if not eating right away.
Bean and Cheese Burritos, from Milagro. It is spicy with a distinct refried bean flavor. Good choice if Lacto-Vegetarian.
Beef Steak Burritos, from Milagro has a lot of steak but not a lot of green chilies. It is best eaten with a fork because it can be messy once heated in microwave because of the cheese. Recommend napkins and eating at the cafeteria table.
