SECORCares Mobile Food Truck Comes to Campus
On Wednesday, April 14th, from 1p.m.- 3p.m. in Parking Lot E, SECORCares brought their mobile food truck to Arapahoe Community College (Littleton Campus). Both students and faculty were able to sign up to receive free groceries at this walk-up event. This event was originally scheduled on March 31st, but due to unforeseen events it was postponed to April 14th.
SECORCares launched their first mobile food truck back in 2018, and thanks to financial supporters they are able to continue to take their market on the road and provide food “to the people who need it the most.” Guests are able to shop the mobile market, much like they shop a local grocery store. The truck is stocked with meat, dairy, fresh produce, breads, canned goods and more, they are stocked and as Mark Heistand, the Operations Director at SECORCares states “we feed about 400-700 families per week.” The food is handed out in pre-packaged bags/boxes that contain enough food to feed a family of four for two weeks! An individual of the ACC community exclaimed, “Cares Mobile Market is a blessing, and the people here are so benevolent and helpful.”
Chandell Bell, ACC’s Case Manager stated “we had 70 students and staff initially sign up. However, we served 30 folds, many of them were families of four.” In total, Cares handed out 40 food boxes, in which each box was enough to feed a family of four for up to two weeks.
Throughout 2020, Cares Mobile Market has been stopping in several locations throughout the South metro, feeding many of the families who participate in the Food for Thought program. Heistand states “SECORCares goes to 45 zip codes in Colorado.” Customers include, isolated senior citizens, college students, staff workers, such as those who work at ACC, and several other throughout varies communities who struggle to get to Cares brick and mortar Market.
