Chili tasters at the cook-off.

This year’s ACC Chili Cook-Off brought a warm meal to the students during lunch on Oct. 27.

In addition to the food, it brought a judgement on whose chili was the best.

“It went really well,” said Steph Beecher, student life specialist and Chili Cook-Off host. “We ran out of food an hour before it finished.”

The judges, Andrea Reveley, Sharitah Bailey and Jill Becker-Lutz, all staff at ACC, were first-time judges.

They assessed the chili based on four criteria: taste, consistency, aroma and overall impression.

First place went to Ross McNeely, second place to Lori Wilson, third place to Pearl Vigil and fourth place to Breanna Gonzalez.

The students agreed with Beecher’s take on the Chili Cook-Off.

“It’s tasty and I appreciate the free food,” said Natalia Maik, ACC undergrad nursing student.

“The chili is great – it’s delicious,” said Stephanie Keller, ACC interpersonal communications student. “I’m so glad that they had this event today because I didn’t have any money for lunch.”

“I think it’s great,” said Leslie Becerra, a second semester ACC nursing student. “It’s awesome. They do good work. Student affairs is really great here. I’ve been to a big university and its better here.”
