Humans of ACC is a series of Q&A presentations about students, faculty and staff.
Today’s focus is on Jake Niedzwiecki, current ACC student

Arapahoe Pinnacle: You’re an English major. What made you want to pursue a degree in English?

Jake Niedzwiecki: I guess after one year of being a full-time student at ACC, I had to make up my mind and pick a major. I picked English because the most influential teachers / professors in my educational career have been just that. I feel like I can do a pretty good job in passing down the knowledge I’ve gained from my history of teachers.

AP: What is your favorite book and why do you love it?

JN: My favorite has to be Steinbeck’s “East of Eden.” It’s filled with wit, passion and tragedy. It’s a timeless book that explores many themes that nearly mirror today’s society. “East of Eden” has a way of showing us what it means to be alive in the most bold and entertaining way possible.

AP: What passions do you have outside of school that people might not know about?

JN: I love playing guitar. I don’t play it seriously, though. I don’t have a band or record or anything. Playing guitar just by myself is an extremely revealing activity, to say the least. If I’m by myself, I don’t have to worry about being successful or even good, for that matter. I’m my own audience and performer and critic.

AP: What has been the highlight of your semester at ACC so far?

JN: I had a great time in my second semester in my literature class. If you didn’t think I was a geek already, that class was taught really well and the conversations or debates I’ve had with my classmates helped solidify some long lasting friendships.
