Land Mines In The Karen State
Burma is a country with a deep and frustrating history. The Central Burmese government amd infrastructure is rotted with corruption.
And bombs.
Villages consist of stretches of paths surrounded by explosives. Some are so saturated with bombs in the ground that people are forced to walk along strict paths to move from one place to another. It has taken years for just a small number of border villages and bases to become safe for children to wander.

Another ongoing issue is that the mine-laden routes prevent transference of food and goods between neighboring villages. This essentially imprisons villagers to remain in their home indefinitely.
This land mine problem has caused hundreds of thousands of people to flee the country to refugee camps in Thailand; then disseminate into East Asian countries and the West.

Removal of these bombs has pulled Western individuals, who don’t work at NGOs (Non Governmental Agencies), into the much alongside the Karen Soldiers. This is necessary, as there is no strong, centralized support in the Karen region.
