Experiment with clay at ACC
ACC’s Clay Club caters to students both in and out of their studio. They even host the Spring and Fall Arapahoe Ceramics Guild pottery sale. Some of the money from the sales goes toward buying some of the studio equipment.
“Our mission in Clay Club is to bring together the community of clay students and expose them to visiting artists they may not otherwise have the chance to ever see or meet,” said Katie Caron, Clay Club adviser.
All ACC students can attend the Clay Club’s workshops. The ceramics department selects top clay artists from around the country so that “students can learn and experiment techniques they would have otherwise not been exposed too,” said Caron. Over 20 students show up to each of their workshop events.
“We just had a workshop this weekend,” Caron continued. “K. Rhynus Cesark from Colorado Mountain College in Aspen, Colorado, was the visiting artist. She demonstrated screen printing with clay, different types of decals and how to fire them in the kiln, image transfers and painting with polyurethane.”
In order to be a part of the club a student must be registered in a ceramics class to work in the studio, due to safety precautions. The Clay Club meets “about 3 times a semester in the ceramics room 3500, depending on how many visiting artists we are able to book,” Caron said.
