My Old House: Time out from the hard projects for some fun seasonal decorations
ACC student Carolyn Jarvis is rehabbing her Grandma’s Denver bungalow one project at a time.
It’s that time of year where people are buying decorations in preparations for the holidays.
But decorations can be pricey! Today I will show you how I made my very own gingerbread-themed wreath for around $6, so you, too, can deck your door with a cute wreath of your own.
Materials:
● A few sheets of felt in whatever color you’d like
● Fabric scissors
● Wire
● Glue gun with glue sticks
● Buttons (optional)
● Ribbon
Instructions:
STEP 1. Start by cutting out your leaf shapes from the felt with your fabric scissors. I doubled the felt to cut them quicker.
STEP 2. Make a circle shape with your wire.
STEP 3. Wrap the circle with felt to give your garland a thicker base.
STEP 4. Attach your leaves to the felted circle with your hot glue. (The glue gun is very hot, and getting hot glue on yourself may cause you to throw the glue gun to the other side of the room. I advise that novice glue gun users — like me — wear gloves or even oven mitts for the first few leaves)
STEP 5. Attach your ribbon to the back of your wreath and apply buttons to the front of the wreath, if you’d like.
STEP 6. Hang on a nail or wreath hanger and your creation is complete!
