Equine program serves those from high school age to seniors
One of ACC’s community education programs is a horse of another color – or any color, to be precise.
The Equine Training Industry and Management Certificate Program runs two and a half years and is available to everyone from high school age to senior citizens. High schoolers typically take one of these classes for credit.
“The horse industry is a real vibrant industry,” said Damian Ficca, the lead instructor. “If you like horses, like working with horses, it’s very satisfying.”
The program is flexible. Someone can choose to go through the entire program or simply take various classes of interest within the program.
The equine classes are held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the Littleton campus, but the labs are held every day during the week and weekends.
Students can set their own schedules. If a student has his or her own horse, he or she can include it in the labs.
Students learn many things in the labs, including horse training and riding instruction. They also learn how to treat horses’ feet that have injury and disease.
The labs are in 10 different barns all throughout the metro area.
“It’s not the mainstream of careers, but it’s definitely needed,” Ficca said.
Several different courses are available in this program:
• Equine Internships
• Horse Training and Horsemanship Lab
• Equine Special Topics
• Nervous & Cardiovascular System
• Pharmacology
• Equine Hair, Skin, Eyes and Ears
• Respiratory System
