Veterans are fundraising “for a place to call home, once a civilian”, states Mike McNairy. McNairy is the chairman, who comes from an impressive background of 21 years in the Colorado Air Force and Commander of the American Legion Post in Castle Rock. Veterans are hoping to raise 15 million dollars, for the Heroes Hall can be built within the next two years.
Olivia Young, with the CBS news, confirms the announcement on November 11, 2024, on how Douglas County provided land at Douglas County Fairgrounds. The new veterans building is relying on donations only. The veterans Heroes Hall will be 14,000-square- footage, to provide a community for 20,000 veterans in Colorado. This building is important to support veterans that have returned from active duty to transition to be a civilian again, for physical, emotional and social needs.
According to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Transitioning From Service – Mental Health, states “Transitioning out of the military often comes with questions about what’s next. Many veterans have unexpected challenges along the way, like anxiety, trouble sleeping and difficulty concentrating”.
Arapahoe Community College provides veterans a place to be together also, in the Veterans Study Lounge located in room M1630 on the Littleton Main Campus. The Lounge is open to all ACC veterans and military-connected students. ACC has a dedication webpage Military and Veterans Services and Benefits | ACC, where veterans can learn about how their VA/GI Bill can help with college. Follow up is needed to see if Arapahoe Community College will be donating to the Heroes Hall Foundation.
