A press release was given to the public on October 24, 2024, announcing major construction regarding the Water Pipe Replacement Project replacing over a thousand lead pipes, starting during the Spring Semester at Arapahoe Community College. The project begins February 2025 and if weather permits, the project will consist of about four months of road work.
Unknown weather for Winter/early Spring may lead to the two specific phases of this major construction to slowly progress and create more delays. There was no reply from the City of Littleton, as of Nov. 6, 2024, about road construction work and have only released the Littleton Press Release statement. The statement reads, “One month before the major project starts [in January 2025] we will give out notice to all impacted customers and will communicate through the city website, newsletter and social media accounts.”
I was able to speak with our very own ACC Construction Manager Brandon Tinker to help understand what the phases mean in construction and if Littleton Main Campus has had any more information in regard to the Littleton Downtown Water Project for this coming Spring 2025 Semester.
“Phases are major projects that are broken down into smaller projects,” Tinker said. “Perhaps the project is in winter because they are expecting a mild winter.”
According to the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agency, Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies – Wikipedia, there are specific steps of obtaining a permit to dig, inspection before digging, and then once pipes are replaced, more inspection has to take place to comply with plumbing code, and finally construction can cover pipes to repair the road.
The construction work is to be completed at night throughout the week, except for Friday and Saturday. Water services will not be available when working on the pipes. “Water pipes are different from sewer pipes because water pipes have pressure lines to move the water through the pipes,” Tinker states.
It is possible that the water will be turned off temporarily at night on specific nights in the main campus building in Littleton, Colorado. One of the major road constructions [Alamo and another at Prince Street] is connected to Church Street, that is near the college. ACC and the construction team are also waiting with the general public to know more information about Littleton Major Water Project.
