Drag Storytime Coming to ACC
Arapahoe Community College (ACC) will be hosting a drag queen story time, to help students and staff recapture the feeling of story time at the library as a child.
“We’re all like tiny children at heart, all the time,” said ACC librarian Lara Beckwith. “We want it to really give you the feeling of home and comfort, and maybe that story time you had in the library. Only with a drag queen.”
The story time will take place in the library on Sept. 14, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p. m. at the Littleton Campus. Drag queen Jessica L’Whor will read stories “about self-love, respecting identities, and appreciation.”
Beckwith believes the story time is important for students because, “You need distractions, you need to still play. It helps you learn quicker, retain more information, and gets your mind off of all the tunnel vision you get while you’re in school.”
“Not only is it gonna be lit and so much fun,” Beckwith added, “it’s gonna be in the library where you have a whole bunch of other resources at your disposal. So you can come in, and plan to study after, hang out with your friends, laugh a lot, and maybe learn some cool things.”
