Check Into the Town of Riverdale

What show consists of beautiful people intertwined with murder, scandals, sex and so much hot drama? No, not “Pretty Little Liars” — that show is ancient and forgotten.

You must be thinking of “Riverdale.” The greatly anticipated series returns for its second season on October 11th, 2017.

The show has won a plethora of Teen Choice Awards since it aired in January. It beat “Pretty Little Liars'” seven-year consecutive win for “Choice TV Show: Drama” at the Teen Choice Awards in August, and walked away with six other wins. The “Best TV Actor: Drama” award went to Cole Sprouse, who played little Cody Martin on the “Suite Life of Zach and Cody” on Disney Channel.

“Riverdale” only consisted of thirteen episodes for its first season but in response to its success, it’s been renewed for a second with a healthy 22 episodes.

“Riverdale” is based off the Archie comics. It’s about how the death of Jason Blossom, the twin brother of Cheryl Blossom, spurred up trouble in the small town of Riverdale and how everyone connects the dots together to figure out the mystery of his murder. Veronica Lodge, the new girl in town, moves to Riverdale with her mother, Hermione Lodge. Veronica quickly develops an attraction to Archie Andrews and becomes good friends with Betty Cooper, who also has a crush on Archie. Love triangles anyone? As the first season progresses, clues leading to Jason’s murderer start to add up, all the while everyone else’s personal issues swirl around them.

The cast includes: K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews; Lilli Reinhart as Betty Cooper; Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge; Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones; Casey Cott as Kevin Keller; Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom; Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy; Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge; Madchen Amick as Alice Cooper; and Luke Perry as Fred Andrews.

“Riverdale” has a huge base of viewers already talking about their favorite “ships” (favorite couple or pairings on tv shows/movies/literature/etc.). Fans are ‘shipping’ Archie and Veronica as well as Betty and Jughead since they’re actually dating in the show. Personally, I have no problem with these ships since I’ve always been on team Veronica.

The show also has an openly gay character named Kevin Keller, played by Casey Cott. He has a huge thing with Joaquin Desantos (Rob Raco). His character is from the south side, where the gang is called “the Serpents”. When Joaquin meets Kevin at an outdoor movie, the two immediately hit it off. The Serpents are frowned upon by the citizens of Riverdale, but despite the drama, these two might still manage to work it out.

Someone new is also checking into the town of Riverdale for season two. Veronica’s dad and Hermonie’s husband, Hiram Lodge, (Mark Consuelos) is coming home. Hiram Lodge was in prison due to fraud and embezzlement. Let’s see where his character takes the new season and how much trouble he’ll bring with him.
