The Gorillaz are Bringing their New Album to Red Rocks

If it were ever a time for everyone’s beloved virtual-band to come out of their six-year hiatus, it’s now. Known for their genera-bending tracks and masterful production, the Gorillaz have a new album in the works and have announced a tour, including a stop at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater.

It’s been almost seven years since the last studio-album’s release in 2010. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting the drop of Humanz on April 28th. So far, the Gorillaz have released five singles from the record, giving everyone a delicious taste of what’s to come. Humanz will consist of fourteen new tracks, and the deluxe edition will have an additional five.

Similar to 2010’s Plastic Beach, the band has no fear of inviting in plenty of features. In the new singles alone, we’ve heard from Mavis Staples, Popcaan, D.R.A.M., Jenny Beth, Vince Staples and Pusha T. But rather than these artists stealing the show, their vocals are skillfully woven into the Gorillaz’s triumphant new sound, supplementing the intense energy and utter euphoria of each unique single.

Sheldon Pearce of Pitchfork had this to say about their new track, “Andromeda”:

“The song pairs whirring noises with soulful fills, minimalist but vibrant. D.R.A.M. adds his warm vocals to the margins, fleshing out harmonies and ad-libbing to create a full range of tones. As a virtual band, the Gorillaz aren’t constrained by genre or story—they can reinvent themselves endlessly to suit the needs of the time. They can only be limited by the imagination of their creators, and “Andromeda” feels limitless.”

Just as we were about to finish chewing the new singles and get truly hungry for the complete album, the Gorillaz announced their first North-American tour in seven years. The best part? They will play a show at Red Rocks on September 26th. The Gorillaz are known for exciting and innovative live shows; a Red Rocks show is an opportunity one shouldn’t pass up.

Tickets go on sale Friday, April 21st at 10am via AXS with a possibility of pre-sale purchase, and are sure to sell out fast. A complete list of tour dates can be found here.
